Naman Jain is a Computer Science undergrad at BITS Pilani, sitting for placements this season. Earlier this month, Naman cracked the Nutanixinterview, to land a job as a Member of Technical Staff, with a package of INR 35 LPA.
Naman applied for the Job Coach program in June and since then has been mentored on the various aspects of the placement process-resume building, interview preparation and role guidance. We got in touch with Naman to understand his journey through campus placements and his experience with TapChief Job Coach.
What are the common challenges you faced while preparing for IT placements this season?
The variety of companies coming down for campus placements is limited. For the kind of effort I was putting in, I would have liked the opportunity to apply to more companies to increase my chances of getting placed. Additionally, I found most preparation services and resources very generic. When I was preparing for placements, I was looking for a more role-specific approach to my training, say a resource specifically for data analytics and not a one-size-fits-all resource for all of CS.
What made you take up the Job Coach program?
I first heard of the Job Coach program from my university mail and decided to check it out. I found a lot of Coaches who could tell me about their profile and the company they were working at. What convinced me to sign up for Job Coach was the personalized training on offer and the possibility of a referral to the Coach’s company.
This way, I could prepare for campus placements while making inroads to companies which I couldn’t have applied to otherwise.
What are your thoughts on your Coach?
My Job Coach, Venkatanagakailash Anantha, was very helpful and proactive. He was patient with all my queries and walked me through various steps of the placement process. He was very responsive over chat and sent across loads of preparation resources in between calls. Overall, I found him to be a very nice mentor.
In your opinion, how much did TapChief help with your resume?
The resume that my Coach helped me build was great. He took the effort to understand all my resume points and also told me what was essential in a resume to make it to a shortlist. He also went the extra mile to write various points of my resume with detailed comments on them. I really appreciate him for that, his feedback on my resume will help me immensely in building my resume in the future too.
Did you find the interview preparation adequate?
My Coach covered topics that aren’t usually covered in my college placement training. He helped me improve my HR interview preparation, something I think that most IT students struggle with. He covered various aspects of an IT interview — the time to be appropriated to each question and tackling difficult questions to name a few.
How did you feel after the mock interview with your Coach?
My Mock interview went well, the resources coupled with the guidance my Coach had given me ensured that I could answer most questions that he threw at me. Having gone through my mock interview made me much more confident about facing my interviewers during the actual process.
Would you recommend Job Coach to your fellow aspirants?
I found the TapChief team very helpful and responsive to my needs. They helped curate a list of Coaches according to my needs and also helped me find the right Coach for me. I would definitely recommend Job Coach to anyone who is looking to succeed at Campus Placements. Job Coach played a crucial part in the interview that landed me my Job at Nutanix and I am grateful to them for that.
